Working hours take up a large portion of our day to day life, so why do so many people settle for a job they’re just not happy with? A study by Robert Half found that 4.3 million people in the UK reported being unhappy at work. Many factors make people unhappy at work, but one thing for sure is that people do not need to feel this way.
Whether you’re looking for a new job or you are seeking a complete career change, there are many places you can go for helpful career advice. Finding the right career for you is essential, but alongside this, it’s crucial that the work environment is positive and you can trust your colleagues. The process can be daunting and hard to get right; that’s why it’s important to get the best advice from trusted sources.
Family and Friends
The first place most of us go when we need advice, no matter what it’s for; is family and friends. These are the people who know us best, so it only makes sense that they might know what is best for you and your situation. This could be even more beneficial if you have a family member in the career you want to be in. Ask them how they got the job and find out about any qualifications they might have completed to get there. They will also be able to guide you through the process. It’s always nice to have somebody you trust by your side.
College or University
If you have just left school or you’re a mature student wanting to return to education, contacting a place of education for career advice is a great place to start. If you have a career in mind but you’re unsure what course to study to reach this goal, contact your chosen college/university to find out. They should be more than happy to help.
Even if you have no idea what you would like to study or what job you wish to achieve, you can still get advice. A great way to do this is to attend an open day at a college/university for more information.
Career Coaching
It doesn’t matter whether you are planning a career change or aiming for a promotion; a career coach is there to help you along the way. Although asking family & friends for advice can be beneficial, sometimes we need that extra push from an objective outside source. A career coach is there to assess your wants and needs and truly help you take control of your career. They will help you devise a plan and ensure that you get to where you want to be. How good does that sound?
Career Counselling
Career development is a long process that can require constant work and attention. Career counselling differs from coaching as it is more of an ongoing process. It will give you the knowledge and skills to continuously work on your career, now and in the future. Career counselling is tailored to you to suit your goals and desires and will help you to find direction in life with guidance along the way.
I offer both career coaching and counselling. Although you may find career advice online, I recommend one-to-one sessions to get to know you best.
