Are you still waiting for a Cinderella, glass-slipper moment in your working life? Are you longing to feel a wave of joy and happiness as you step into the perfect job role? Well, I’m here to help. My name is Chris Kenber, and I’m a career coach and business mentor based in Bristol. I’ve years of experience guiding my clients to success across most industries, so no problem is a new problem. You’re in capable hands.
With these tips and tricks to find a career you love, I’ll explain how you can identify your dream job opportunities. It’s never too late!
Tip #1 – Understand Your Personality
Everybody is suited to different styles of working. If you’re introverted, working from home may fit your lifestyle. On the other hand, extroverts thrive in the office since they can brainstorm with co-workers and refine their ideas through conversation. Perhaps you’re an ambivert, and a mix of office and homework would accommodate you best! You must reflect on your personality to pick the perfect career.
For a preliminary understanding of your ideal working style, take a quiz that’ll answer the question: are you an extrovert or introvert?
Tip #2 – Identify Your Interests
Your ideal career will cover a topic you find interesting. If you aren’t invested in the industry you choose, you’ll quickly find your everyday tasks monotonous. It’s challenging to motivate yourself to finish anything unrewarding. Consider your hobbies and interests to start! How do you spend your free time? Can you incorporate your passions into your regular job role? If you appreciate art, you may choose to apply for a position at a gallery.
Remember, you can learn many skills once you begin a role. By focusing on your passions rather than your qualifications, you can apply for positions outside your skillset.
Tip #3 – Start Some Studying
Before you launch yourself into a new career in uncharted territory, you need to complete research. You can’t be confident you’ll enjoy a career switch unless you thrive when learning fresh material! Free online resources and courses are readily available to support your early learning. Taking the initiative to begin qualifications independently will give you a head start in an interview.
Are you wondering where to find free online learning? The National Careers Service can guide you to select a suitable course. Put yourself in the best position possible.
Tip #4 – Name Your Non-Negotiables
Now that you’ve determined the industry you’d like to enter and have educated yourself on the basics, it’s time to start considering which company you’d like to work alongside. Are you desperate for an inclusive workplace culture where friendship is a core value? Some businesses rarely interact outside of the office, and you won’t thrive in those conditions if you’re sociable. List what you expect from your employer.
As you attend interviews, you ought to quiz interviewers on your non-negotiables. Ask about the team dynamics, understand the business’ management style, and listen to company core ethics.
Tip #5 – Prioritise Personal Development
As you consider every fresh opportunity, consider how it will support your personal development. Are you going to learn plenty? Will you feel satisfied, supported and inspired? What are the opportunities for progression? As you invest time and effort into cultivating a new career, you want to be sure it’ll be successful long term. You may even plan to start your own business once you’ve learnt enough.
Consider career counselling services to plan your development. If you work with me, Chris Kenber, I’ll tailor your sessions to incorporate your background, values, abilities, interests and circumstances.
